Bento box

Featuring the Pink Bento

That’s right, it’s bento time again! Today’s bento features my new pink bento box that’s just like the blue one from a couple of weeks ago. This particular bento was so easy to put together that it almost feels like cheating. I got a rotisserie chicken already prepared at the grocery store so all I had to do was cook up the veggies and rice, pull off small pieces of chicken (after 2 years of living in Japan, I still can’t “cut” meat with chopsticks!), and place all into the bento box. Easy, delicious and a pretty balanced meal! (more…)

Back to School Bento

Now that we’re settled into our new apartment and classes have started, it’s bento time again! The first week  my husband and I were just buying lunch on campus or heading back home where we could whip something up. But buying lunch out can be pretty expensive and I’m finding I like to stay on campus most of the day so I can study at the library and hit the gym before heading home in time for dinner. Packing a bento is the perfect way to save money and still have a delicious meal on campus. Here is a simple smoked salmon bento I made for lunch this week.

The main attraction for this one is the smoked salmon. Not only do I love the taste but since it’s ready to eat, I don’t have to fuss with a lot of preparation. You guys know I like to keep it simple! ^_~ I actually cooked the mixed veggies (carrots, broccoli, green beans, yellow wax beans, peppers) and rice the night before so it was all ready to go first thing in the morning.

And I love my new bento boxes! They are a bit smaller than my other bento boxes but it’s just the right size for me since I don’t want to eat too much before heading to the gym. Here is the blue one but I also got one in pink. The semester has just begun and there are many bento to be had before it’s over so I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of these! ^_^

A Rilakkuma Style Bento

Playing around with the actual presentation of my bentos has made preparing lunch less of a chore and more of a fun, creative outlet. Not only did I find a new heart-shaped vegetable cutter to play with, but I found Rilakkuma-shaped kamaboko! (more…)

Bento Fun: Playing With Vegetable Cutters

June was so full of travel and guests that we ended up eating out a lot and my venture into bento making got a bit derailed. I’m back at it again though and I found vegetable cutters to help make my bentos more fun! (more…)

A Simple Chicken Bento

Since last week’s picnic bento was a success, I decided to keep going and see if I could come up with other simple lunches. Here is another very simple bento that I threw together. (more…)
