Things I’m Loving – June 2014

I know that at the end of each month when I prepare my Things I’m Loving post, I look back and cannot believe how quickly the month passed. This time around was the worst yet. I literally did not believe June was over…until I looked at my calendar and saw it’s July 2nd! How can someone miss the start of a new month, you ask? The beginning of June saw us traveling to the Okinawan Islands to explore Shurijo Castle, Kabira Bay, Fusaki Beach, Taketomi Island, and Iriomote Island. (And I actually still have more to share, I just haven’t had any downtime!) Soon after we returned to Tokyo, my mother-in-law visited for 10 days which meant lots of sightseeing every day. And just a few days after she left, a couple of friends came to stay with us for a week. I didn’t look at the calendar until they left this morning and only then did I realize…it’s July! So before I get any further behind, here are some of the things I enjoyed in June. (more…)

Day Trip to Taketomi Island

One thing I loved about our stay in Ishigaki was that we could easily hop a ferry to visit one of the other nearby islands for a day or afternoon. On our third day, we took a day trip to Taketomi Island, a small island southwest of Ishigaki. It’s the location of a traditional Ryukyu village that has been beautifully preserved. Just a 20 minute ferry ride from Ishigaki, it’s well worth a day trip to explore the village and enjoy the beautiful scenery and beaches. (more…)

Relaxing in Ishigaki: Fusaki Resort Village & Beach

During our trip to Okinawa, we decided to treat ourselves and stay at a resort since it was our anniversary. We stayed at the Fusaki Resort Village on the west coast of Ishigaki and were completely impressed with the quality of the resort, wonderful service, and beautiful beach-side location. Oh, and let’s not forget the delicious food! (more…)

Things I’m Loving – March 2014

I feel a bit like a broken record here but, seriously, where did the last month go? At the end of each month when I start writing the “Things I’m Loving” post, I look back and think about all the things I’ve gotten to try, see, or otherwise experience, and it just amazes me how quickly March flew by. I’m just now realizing that all those things I meant to write about throughout the month just didn’t make it into posts…at least I got the White Day post in! ^_^; My lack of posts is partly because cold, rainy March weather made it seem like a great idea to stay in and watch the entire Breaking Bad tv series (so good!) and partly because I spent as much time as possible hanging out with a friend who is leaving Japan tomorrow. I really believe in saying “until we meet again” rather than “goodbye” because those people important to us will stay in our lives. We’ll find ways to stay in contact, to email, to call, and to see each other again. But I know that I’m still going to miss seeing my friend terribly, thus the attempt to store up as many happy memories as possible to think of when I’m missing our regular get-togethers. It really does help to think happily about fun times, like Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations ending in karaoke until 5am! So in that spirit, here are some of the things that have been making me happy this March.
